Our CommUnity...the Real Reno

Forget what you think you know about Reno. Far beyond the misconceptions offered up by the once popular television show, Reno 911, our town is packed full of cultural icons and events that will impress the most seasoned of world travelers.

If you haven’t figured it out, Reno is taking adventure to a whole new level - an unexpected level, in fact. With a calendar of special events that will bring you back, to more outdoor tricks up our sleeves than we can handle, we promise: there is never a dull moment in our neck of the woods.

Reno hosts an annual, month-long arts festival known as Artown. In 2010 there were more than 400 events and more than 60% of those were totally free to the public, including weekly series and locally, nationally and internationally recognized artists including Afro-Cuban All Stars, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Joan Baez and more.

Reno is home to 31 museums including the National Automobile Museum along the beautiful Truckee River, named one of the Top Ten in the nation according to Car Collector Magazine.

Nevada Museum of Art

Reno is also home to Nevada’s only accredited art museum, the Nevada Museum of Art, host toPicasso, Warhol and Rafael – just to name a few.

The Biggest Little City has a vibrant music scene with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra to newer intimate venues like the Knitting Factory in the heart of downtown Reno where Willie Nelson, the Smashing Pumpkins and a score of big name acts have taken the stage; the 7,000-seat Reno Events Center to gorgeous outdoor amphitheaters at Bartley Ranch or Wingfield Park on the Truckee river in downtown Reno.

Reno-Tahoe is the place for adventure.

Far from ordinary, Reno Tahoe offers a wide range of activities at an even wider range of skill levels.

Reno kayak park

When it comes to outdoor activities, it's time to choose your own adventure: kayaking in the middle of downtown, mountain biking, hiking/backpacking, horseback riding, ATV tours, rock climbing, horseback riding, backcountry adventures, Jeep or Hummer tours, or even an off-road experience on an ATV!

And if you want a day at the beach and a day on the slopes tied into one - we have the best of both worlds.

Voted #1 in outdoor fun by Rand McNally, Reno serves as the gateway to unlimited outdoor adventure with Lake Tahoe just a short drive away; visitors can enjoy a premier four-season adventure destination.

So what are you waiting for?  Come experience the Real Reno ...the one we know as our rich community...for yourself.
